Law wouldn't ever let it show, but she gets extremely jealous when Shambles shows affection to Noctis. Though she doesn't get envious when it's Cor, as she completely understands how Shambles could get starstruck at the glory of Cor the Immortal... in her own words.

Shambles has no qualms attacking Ignis, Prompto, and Gladio, however.

Most interestingly to Law, during her encounters with Prince Noctis and his retinue, Shambles would refuse to harm the prince. Furthermore, the coeurl wouldn't attack Cor Leonis, either.

Law has a tendency to pamper and spoil Shambles, even commissioning an oversized bed for her chambers in Ardyn's manor so that he can sleep at the bottom of her bed.

Ultimately, Law ended up finding the young coeurl during a field mission in Lucis after the cub (now a little bit older) had been freed by Cor. Noticing how tame it was despite coeurls (and especially their elder variants) being notorious for their ferocity, she decided to take him with her back to Niflheim. She ended up bonding with him quickly, and named him "Shambles."

Until they could safely release the coeurl cub back into the wild, it was entrusted to Cor Leonis' care. Cor, having no idea how to care for animals, just fed the coeurl pancakes that he slipped underneath the table during breakfast.

… However, Ignis knew the prince was hiding something, and quickly discovered the ‘kitten’ hiding in his room. “Y-Your Highness… ! That’s not a kitten! That’s a bloody coeurl cub! An elder coeurl cub, at that… !”

Shambles’ story did not begin with Law in Niflheim, but all the way over in Lucis! He started off life as a kitten that was orphaned and managed to slip through the Wall surrounding Insomnia, where a young Prince Noctis found and snuck him inside the Citadel to be his pet cat…

Though Shambles is fearsome and vicious on the battlefield, in the privacy of Ardyn Izunia’s manor in Niflheim (where Law Ren and Shambles live with him), the Imperial Chancellor can be quoted as saying that his right-hand woman’s ferocious pet is really just a “giant dumb cat”, in which Law would nod and deadpan her superior’s assessment in being accurate (unfortunately).

He is the loyal companion of Law Ren. As she uses her coeurl as a war mount, she wears specially tailored clothes to prevent her from getting shocked by the electricity Shambles generates for powerful attacks.

Shambles is an elder coeurl, which is a subspecies of coeurl on Eos without any color pigmentation on their fur.

She even quickly took notice of Shambles'... particularly odd penchant for pancakes, wondering how on Eos he could've even developed such an addiction in the first place... Though she indulges him anyway with the occasional treat, pancakes are notably NOT part of any healthy coeurl's diet.
